What you get with your free chart
Your birth chart is a snapshot of the sky at the exact moment you were born, drawn from the place you were born. This calculator turns that moment into a complete natal chart wheel plus a full data table, and none of it is held back behind a paywall.
Every placement comes with its exact degree and minute — not just "Sun in Leo," but Sun at 14°32' Leo. That precision matters when you start comparing your chart against transits, reading about critical degrees, or checking whether a planet sits right on a house cusp.
Retrograde planets are clearly marked, so you can see at a glance whether Mercury, Venus, or any outer planet was moving backward from Earth's perspective when you were born. Natal retrogrades are a detail many free calculators skip, and they change how a placement tends to express itself.
- All ten planets — Sun through Pluto — with sign, house, and exact degree
- The Ascendant (rising sign), Midheaven, and the full set of twelve house cusps
- Major aspects between planets (conjunctions, sextiles, squares, trines, oppositions) with orbs
- Retrograde markers on every planet that was retrograde at your birth
- An interactive chart wheel you can explore placement by placement
How accurate is the calculation?
The math behind this calculator comes from the Swiss Ephemeris, the same astronomical library professional astrology software relies on. Planetary positions are computed from high-precision ephemeris data, so the degrees you see match what a professional astrologer's desktop software would show for the same birth data.
Charts use the tropical zodiac — the system used by the large majority of Western astrologers — and the Placidus house system, the most common default in Western practice. If you have compared charts across serious astrology sites, these are the settings you have almost certainly seen.
The biggest accuracy factor is not the software; it is your birth time. An exact time from a birth certificate gives you a reliable Ascendant and house placements. If your time is approximate, your planets in signs will still be correct (with the occasional exception of the Moon on a sign-change day), but houses and the rising sign may shift. When in doubt, check your birth certificate or ask family before treating house placements as settled.
Free means free: no account, no credit card
You can calculate your chart as a guest, right on this page, without creating an account. No email address, no password, no credit card field hiding at the end of the process. The full chart — wheel, placements, degrees, houses, and aspects — is shown to you immediately.
Guest mode is a real mode, not a teaser. Your chart is calculated and displayed in full whether or not you ever sign up. Creating a free account simply lets you save charts so you can come back to them, create charts for family and friends, and unlock the free reading described below.
We built it this way on purpose. A birth chart calculator that ransoms your own chart back to you is a bad first impression, and astrology is confusing enough without dark patterns layered on top.
From raw chart to plain-language reading
A chart wheel full of glyphs and degrees is precise, but it does not explain itself. That is where readings come in. Every MySkyChart account includes a free Light reading: an AI-written interpretation of your chart's core placements, generated from your exact positions — not generic sun-sign copy.
The upgrade path is simple and entirely optional. The Light reading is free with your chart. If you want more depth, the Full reading ($15) covers your chart placement by placement in plain language, and the Expert reading ($35) goes further into aspect patterns and chart synthesis. Readings are delivered in the app and as downloadable HTML and PDF files you can keep.
There is no subscription and no recurring charge — readings are one-time purchases tied to a specific chart. Start with the free calculator and the Light reading; upgrade only if you find yourself wanting more.
Tips for the best results
Use the most exact birth time you can find — a birth certificate, hospital record, or baby book beats memory. The Ascendant changes sign roughly every two hours, so "morning-ish" can put your rising sign, and every house placement with it, in the wrong place.
Enter the city where you were actually born, not where you grew up. The calculator resolves the coordinates and the historical time zone for you, including daylight saving quirks, so you do not need to convert anything by hand.
If your birth time is truly unknown, you can still run the chart. Your planets in signs remain meaningful; just hold house placements and the rising sign loosely, and read our rising sign guide to understand what an unknown time leaves uncertain.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need to sign up to use the calculator?
No. You can calculate and view your complete birth chart as a guest, with no account, email, or password. Signing up is optional — a free account lets you save charts, create charts for other people, and get the free Light reading.
Is it really free?
Yes. The full chart calculation — all planets with exact degrees, houses, aspects, and retrogrades — is free, and no credit card is requested at any point. The only paid items are optional in-depth readings: Full ($15) and Expert ($35). The Light reading is free.
How accurate is the chart?
Planetary positions are computed with the Swiss Ephemeris, the astronomical library used by professional astrology software, using the tropical zodiac and Placidus houses. Accuracy of house placements and your rising sign then depends on how exact your birth time is.
What if I don't know my exact birth time?
You can still calculate your chart. Planets in signs will be correct in almost all cases, but the Ascendant and house placements depend on the time of day, so treat those as tentative. A birth certificate or hospital record is the best source for an exact time.
Which house system and zodiac does the calculator use?
The tropical zodiac and the Placidus house system — the most widely used settings in Western astrology. If you compare your results with other mainstream Western astrology sites using the same settings, the placements should match.
Can I create charts for other people?
Yes. With a free account you can create and save separate charts for family, friends, or a partner, each with their own birth data. As a guest you can calculate one chart at a time right on this page.
